A VICTORIAN POTTERY
by Peter Beckett
only £8.95
A Victorian Pottery is the 1st in a series devised, researched and written by Peter Beckett, a self confessed 'antiques dealer' who for some years had been buying and selling old and antique pottery and porcelain. Born and bred in the 'Potteries' and a proud Longtonian, Peter had been an employee of Thomas Forester and Sons when the company finally closed down in the late nineteen fifties.
With the help of many local 'experts', friends and acquaintances, this book chronicles the formative years of Thomas Forester, the growth of the company into a major, and innovative name in pottery manufacture world wide, to the sad demise and final expiration of this once great name in British pottery.
The book contains a superb collection of illustrations and photographs of Thom. Forester's wares and backstamps, with an in depth recollection, in words and photographs, of the people who worked and lived during the rise of the Potteries and the way of life in the early 1900's with the dirt and squalor in which 'Potters' were obliged to live and die, not knowing the life-threatening dangers of their everyday chores.
This fully illustrated book of nearly 100 pages, contains 8 full colour pages of Forester ware, as with all our books it has a full colour gloss laminated cover.
