HANLEY WAKES
by Derrick Woodward
only £8.75

Hanley Wakes published in summer 2002 has sold well in, especially in "The Potteries".  The book, only originally envisaged as a booklet, is a really good read, and, as the title suggests, rediscovers the many past-times, activities and the life-styles of the inhabitants of Hanley from pre-war and war years through to the more recent past. Local author Derrick Woodward recalls with vivid clarity the amusing things which the youngsters of the day got up to!  The book of nearly a hundred pages, includes many previously unpublished photographs and is, (as are all our books) printed on satin velvet paper which reproduces the wonderful collection of photographic material to the very best possible quality.  With a delightful full colour, laminated wrap around cover to protect the book for many years to come.

The author recalls his own childhood in Hanley of the post war years, with rationing still making life hard, but with so many of the nice things which made Hanley a good community in which to grow up and provided, for a small boy, an adventure or a discovery around every corner.  For anyone with fond memories of Stoke-on-Trent, and Hanley in particular, this is a book definitely not to be missed.
