WHERE HAVE ALL THE YEARS GONE?
by Reg Harvey
only £7.95

Released in late 2003 'Where have all the Years Gone?" is by former Silverdale man Reg Harvey; Engineer, Teacher and Entrepreneur.  From his childhood days in the then small village of Silverdale, a mining community on the outskirts of Newcastle, through his life and the many changes he has seen. This semi-autobiographical book is not just about a place or its people, it is about the memories of Reg Harvey, and those things which took place around him.

Silverdale, a mining village in the heart of Staffordshire, was recognised as one of the largest villages in England.  The population of the village exceeded one thousand, including coal miners from Wales and Yorkshire.  People came from all parts of the country seeking employment at the brick or roofing tile works, the coal and iron mines, and the Silverdale furnace.  the Sneyd family of Keele Hall and Heathcote family of Apedale Hall were local industrialists who mined and marketed rich material deposits of the area.  Their families prosepered from the mining industry and the Sneyds often entertained world famous people such as members of the Royal family and Grand Duke Michael of Russia.

reg. illustrates his book with personal photographs and illustrations which will bring back memories of the past, not only to people who knew him and the places he speaks of, but also to anyone who recalls the days of the Mangle and Dolly Peg, of mining communities and of the annual Silverdale Carnival with Morris dancing groups, Brass bands, Silver bands and Jazz bands.  Then at the age of fifty years with a 'lifetime' of making friends, business acquaintances and enjoying strong family bonds, the consequences of his emigrating with his immediate family, to Canade were only realized in these later years.

This book, as with our previous offeings, is extremely well produced, and of our larger format (approx. 185mm x 240mm) it is printed on satin finish paper to enhance the quality of the photographic content and to ensure a nice feel and durability.  As always the full colour cover is gloss laminated to give added protection to the book for years of use.
